Aims & Output

Security in port and cargo operations are important issues for suppliers, shippers, importers and authorities.

As alternative to road transport, the sea transport should be more encouraged and taken into the consideration in the transport planning.
Port Integration will take different actions to promote ports and also to make practical suggestions for making better use of the interoperability between ports. Our main objective is to encourage speedy, cost-effective freight flows which contribute to regional competitiveness while reducing environmental impact.

Through a programme of combined activities such as research, workshops and best practice visits, Port Integration’s partners will work together to develop solutions for more sustainable maritime and hinterland transport and structures. Based on lessons learned from previous EU-Interreg IVC projects, Port Integration will take this useful information to contribute in following fields:
• EU policy
• Hinterland Transport, Gateways and Innovative Logistical Concepts
• Single Windows, e-Maritime and Port Community Systems.

At the same time, this project will help Port Integration partners to gain a better understanding of EU policy and how it is evolving. Partners will learn from the first-hand information how they can make best use of funding opportunities such as Motorways of the Sea, Marco Polo and TEN-T to build missing transport links, remove bottlenecks and increase the safety and security in their transport chains. Discussions will also focus on
public-private partnerships as a central pillar of EU maritime policy.

Forwarders need to feel secure about operations and about their goods. Furthermore they need encouragement to consider the ports and sea transport option as the best mode of transport. Port Integration will therefore also look at promotion and for practical suggestions to make a better use of the interoperability between ports.
