In the Hamburg workshop various fields of EU policy regarding ports had been identified.

Relevant EU policy intitiatives regarding ports to be dealt with within the project are:
a) Communication on a European Ports Policy COM(2007) 616, 18.10.2007
b) E-maritime
c) Review of the TEN-T
d) Environmental Guidelines
e) Funding SSS/MoS/Marco Polo

The Port Integration project will help partners and other parties to gain a better understanding of EU policy and how it is evolving. The workshop gave an overview about these topics and suggestions were made how ro make best use of funding opportunities such as Motorways of the Sea, Marco Polo and TEN-T to build missing transport links, remove bottlenecks and increase the safety and security of transport. Discussions will also focus on public-private partnerships as a central pillar of EU maritime policy.
