Kaliningrad

The Kaliningrad Port complex constitutes the basis of the region’s transport industry.

The Port of Kaliningrad is the westernmost non-freezing port of Russia with a favourable geographical location – no more than 600 km. separates it from capitals and ports of Poland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Baltic countries. Two branches of trans-European transport corridors run through the port: of the 1st one (VIA Hanseatica) and of the 9th one.

The port is connected to the Baltic Sea by the Kaliningrad Sea Canal, that is 43 km long, 50 – 80 m. wide, and allows maximum permissible LOA 170 meters and maximum permissible draft 8 – 9.6 meters. 15 stevedore companies offer their cargo transhipment services on 17 km of berthing lines.

Announced cargo capacity of terminals allows transhipping of 30 mln. tons of various cargoes (mostly export oriented) annually. The cargoes handled in the port include oil and oil products, coal, coke, timber and processed wood (board, plywood, pulp, paper), ferrous metals, ferroalloys, mineral fertilizers (liquid, bulk and in various package), refrigerated goods (meat, fish, butter, fruits), grain, container cargoes and wheeled machinery. 14.5 mln tons of cargoes was transhipped in 2011, which is by 14 % more then in 2010. Maximum turnover was in 2007 – 15,6 mln tons. Average tonnage of vessel called to the port:

in 2004 was 3 130 tons
in 2005 was 3 772 tons (20% more than in 2004)
in 2006 was 4200 tons (10 % more than in 2005)
in 2007 was 4600 tons (10 % more than in 2006)
In 2009 was 5600 tons (16 % more than in 2008)
Ferry communication has been rapidly developing in the Kaliningrad region, due to construction of cargo-and-passenger car-and-railway ferry terminal in Baltiysk.

Today, being in possess of gantry and mobile cranes of max. 52 tons hoisting capacity, motor and electric loaders and other necessary equipment, covered, open and refrigerated warehouses, the port offers services in accumulation and storage of various cargoes. There is a park of terminals for storage of oil and oil products, as well as liquid fertilizers. Supply of vessels with fuel, water and food is arranged in the port.

The Port of Kaliningrad is linked by container lines to the ports of the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Poland and the Baltic countries. Our port is regularly called by passenger cruise vessels, as well as by passenger vessels carrying tourists from Polish ports (Elblag, Frombork, Gdansk and Gdynia).
